Active Student Interest Groups (SIGS)

The University encourages the participation of all its students in organizations and clubs through College funding opportunities and incentives. CNUCOM has a wide variety of student organizations to meet the needs of student interests. We have something for everyone!

Student Associations/Clinic Groups

  • American Medical Women's Association (AMWA)
    • AMWA is comprised of physicians, residents, medical students, pre-medical students, health care professionals, and supporters. AMWA is the oldest multispecialty organization dedication to advancing women in medicine and improving women’s health.
  • Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA)
    • To address medical issues specific to populations of Asian or Pacific Islander ethnicities in the local community, and this recognize the more cultural, Asian Pacific American component of the organization. APAMSA is a community for students interested in Asian minority-centered health topics.
  • California Health Policy Student Interest Group
    • We are a group of students at CNU who aim to better understand our healthcare system, through the lens of health policy and advocacy.
  • Christian Medical Fellowship (CMF)
    • To provide a setting for students in the medical field to gather, explore and grow their faith through discussion and outreach.

    • FGLIA (First-Generation and Low Income Association) is a CNU branch that unites first-generation and/or low income students to provide or be an alternative resource for financial aid, leadership, etc.

    • To promote the interests and support to those who identify themselves as underrepresented minority students through social, cultural, educational, political and other activities.

    • This is a group centered on serving unhoused individuals where they are at through various sectors including but not limited to medicine, basic needs, and the arts.

  • SEVA
    • A not for profit student run free health clinic aiming to provide basic medical care for our local and underserved South Asian community. We are SEVA or “selfless service” in Sanskirt, which also stands for Screening, Education, Vitals and Assessment in this context. We aim to raise awareness about conditions that disproportionately affect the South Asian population (heart disease and diabetes) and discuss the importance of preventative health care.

    • To improve the health of underserved groups in the greater Sacramento region. Through this work, students will gain an understanding of the unique needs of the underserved communities and be introduced to the clinical aspects of medicine. Our goal is to educate students about the issues causing health disparities between different groups and ways in which we, as future physicians and members of the community, can work to alleviate health disparities.

    • Anatomy Academy is a student-run organization committed to the science, health, and physical education of children living in underserved communities in Sacramento and Elk Grove.

    • The California Northstate University, College of Medicine Art Appreciation Association strives to explore all facets of artistic excellence both within and outside of the medical field.
  • Basketball Student Interest Group
    • To promote student wellbeing, camaraderie, school spirit, and community outreach through involvement in basketball.

    • To create a space where students actively learn and engage in discussions about global health, and to provide opportunities for students to gain practical experience and create an impact in the global health fields.

    • Magic and Medicine student groups are centered around teaching medical students to do magic and then facilitating sessions at UC Davis Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospital for Children (TBD) that allow them to engage patients with magic at the bedside ('magic therapy').

    • To enable medical students to explore the field of Emergency Medicine through community physicians, guest lectures, workshops, clinical shadowing opportunities as well as community outreach programs.

    • The California Northstate University College of Medicine Pathology Student Interest Group (Path SIG) aims to expand knowledge and interest in pathology and its associated subspecialties.

    • To cultivate CNU medical students’ interest in pediatrics; To provide networking and educational opportunities for students to interface with community physicians working in pediatrics. These opportunities will include panels, presentations, and social gatherings; To promote and advocate healthy lifestyles in children living in the Sacramento and neighboring regions through community events and educational seminars.
