CNU Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation SIG

Description

We are a group of medical students at CNU who share an interest in physical medicine & rehabilitation (PM&R) and its related subspecialties including sports medicine, hospice and palliative care, neuromuscular medicine, brain injury, spinal cord injury, pediatric rehabilitation, and pain medicine. We support community involvement, education, and collaboration with local PM&R physicians to promote awareness. We volunteer at local medical events and health fairs, and host talks with physicians, residents, and patients to discuss their experiences with PM&R

Mission

The PM&R student interest group promotes student awareness and engagement to explore this unique field, and to understand how physicians can better support the disability community. Through guest lectures, community involvement, and shadowing/research opportunities, we aim to educate and immerse ourselves in this growing field.

Core Values

  • Awareness and Inclusion: We welcome all students regardless of background knowledge or experience to dive deep and explore PM&R
  • Community: We engage with our local community whether it be a guest speaker with a spinal fracture being treated by a PM&R physician, spending a week at sleepaway camp with a child with muscular dystrophy, or aiding in local high schools’ sports physicals – we value our future patients and all they can teach us.
