California Northstate University Announces New Scholarship To Recognize Academic Excellence and Diversity

The President Academic and Diversity Scholarship represents a joint effort between CNU and the Duruisseau Foundation

Elk Grove—Nov. 23—California Northstate University (CNU) announced that it has established the President Academic and Diversity Scholarship, in a partnership between the CNU President’s Office and Duruisseau Foundation, a nonprofit established by Dr. Shelton Duruisseau, CEO of Quantum Care Place, Inc., a senior care and housing company, and former Vice President for Diversity & Community Engagement at the UC Davis Health System.

Under the program, two scholarships have been awarded for up to four years of study for each student at CNU’s College of Health Sciences (CHS), the university’s undergraduate college that prepares students seeking careers in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, psychology, and nursing.

“This scholarship underscores CNU’s commitment to diversity and inclusion while educating future generations of healthcare professionals,” said Dr. Alvin Cheung, CNU’s CEO and President. “I’d like to thank everyone who worked to make this scholarship program a reality and particularly Dr. Duruisseau for his unwavering support.”

“I am honored to participate in this exciting project,” said Dr. Duruisseau. “There is no greater priority in higher education than to provide pathways to success for young scholars who reflect the diversity of American society.”

Scholarship recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 in order to continue to receive the scholarship, which includes tuition and fees, health insurance, and books. Scholarship recipients will be responsible for their own room and board expenses.
