After completing his internship and residency in Neurology at the Harvard combined program (Brigham and Women’s hospital, Children’s Hospital, Beth Israel/Deaconess Medical Center) as well as a two-year fellowship in Virology at the NIH, Dr. Bissell was hired as a staff neurologist at the Sacramento Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Sacramento. After 10 years there, he was hired as Chief of Neurology at the South Sacramento Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in South Sacramento where he remained for 28 years. He received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University.
In addition to practicing inpatient and outpatient neurology, Dr. Bissell was responsible for accreditation, quality assessment and improvement, organ transplantation and death determination. Dr. Bissell was a clinical attending (instructor) at the UC Davis Medical Center and for UC Davis residents at Kaiser Permanente for 38 years.
