About

Professor Sandhu graduated from London University in 1980 and practiced for 13 years as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at the University Hospitals of Leicester. Then appointed as Head of Education and Postgraduate Dean, of the Severn Deanery in the Southwest of England. This involved overseeing almost 2,500 residents in 65 specialties, in 12 hospitals based in 8 cities. Having served 8.5 years at Severn Deanery, briefly he was Prof. of Medical Education at the University of Bristol before becoming the Head of School of Postgraduate Studies and Research at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Medical University in Bahrain. He served for 6 years as Chair of the Postgraduate Committee of AMEE.

Research Interests

Professor Sandhu has over a hundred publications including peer reviewed papers, editorials, letters to the editor and book chapters. His AMEE Guide on Healthcare Educational Leadership in the 21st Century was published in 2020. His education grants from the NHS to develop postgraduate training was in excess of $21m over 5 years. His research gate score is 27.79, with an H Index of 15 and over 700 citations.
