Dr. Weisshaar is a Professor of Medicine and Cardiology formerly practicing at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center and the Institute of Medical Educators, where she led the Northern California Heart Transplant Program. Throughout her tenure, she held numerous leadership roles and played a pivotal role in training advanced heart failure cardiologists in collaboration with Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Weisshaar earned her Medical Degree from the Medical College of Ohio/University of Toledo College of Medicine. She completed her combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics internship and Internal Medicine residency in Toledo before pursuing fellowships in Cardiology and Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant Cardiology at California Pacific Medical Center.
Fresh out of training, Dr. Weisshaar joined the faculty at her alma mater, the Medical College of Ohio, as an Assistant Professor. During her time there, she quickly established herself as an award-winning educator and embarked on an inspiring academic career as a clinical researcher and trialist.
The clinical application of cell-free donor-derived DNA for rejection detection in heart transplant recipients, as well as clinical trials of novel therapies for hospitalized COVID-19 patients during the early stages of the pandemic.
