About

Dr. El-Shamy moved to the USA in Oct. 2011 to join the Division of Liver Diseases at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City. His current role at California Northstate University is to establish a high throughput screening program for a novel therapeutic molecule for “functional cure” of HBV infection. He has published 28 publications, and is the first author of 11 publications; three of them have been published in the highest impact liver journals (two in Hepatology and one in Journal of Hepatology). Furthermore, over the course of these studies, he has established a global network with world-leading viral hepatitis virologists.

Research Interest

His research focuses on the interaction between viruses and host cells at the molecular and cellular level; with special focus on viral hepatitis (HBV and HCV).
