CNU First-Generation and Low Income Association SIG
Description
FGLIA (First-Generation and Low Income Association) is a CNU branch that unites first-generation and/or low income students to provide or be an alternative resource for financial aid, leadership, etc. This club is open to everyone in CNU who has a genuine interest in first-generation and/or low-income issues and does not require club fee.
Mission Statement
- To promote the dissemination of information relevant to First-Generation and Low Income issues in the field of graduate medical health education and pre-health education.
- To explore and possibly resolve the unique challenges, obstacles, and responsibilities specific to First-Generation and Low Income Association’s medical student health professionals in training.
- To provide opportunities for First-Generation and Low Income Association student health professionals in-training to give back to their community (i.e.) through service and/or mentorship.

Leadership and Values
- Gather, list, and share monthly financial aid resource through email
- Help students understand and choose the best financial aid resource for them
- Provide financial aid to school essentials for club members with valid proof of need
- Provide leadership opportunities through club events
- Work with disadvantage high school students in understanding the health field and financial aid available for higher education
- Health and welfare distribution events:
- Financial Literacy Book Distribution Event: provide financial literacy books CNU students to better understand the best way to save and invest their money
- Healthcare Package Distribution Event: create health care packages to be distributed to the homeless community of Sacramento
- Dental Hygiene Event: distribute dental kits and or child dental hygiene books to libraries and elementary schools
