The Sacramento area is known for its accessibility to everything there is to love about northern California. Often referred to as the “River City”, Sacramento is bordered by the American and Sacramento Rivers which offer opportunities for sailing, kayaking, rowing, windsurfing, and both calm and white water rafting. The beautiful Folsom Lake, less than 30 miles to the east of Sacramento within the Sierra Foothills, also presents great opportunities for boating, rafting and sailing.
Downtown Sacramento offers students great shopping, restaurants, theater, concerts, and night life. Sacramento is the home of the Sacramento Kings NBA basketball team and the Sacramento River Cats minor league baseball team. In addition to downtown Sacramento, great upscale shopping and night life can be found in the nearby Arden, Roseville, and Folsom communities. Sacramento is also home to dozens of unique and awe-inspiring museums, such as the California Railroad Museum, the Crocker Art Gallery, and the Discovery Science Center.
Old Town Sacramento and several towns in the nearby Sierra Foothills offer tourists a glimpse of the gold mining days with mine tours, gold panning, and gift shops. And several festivals throughout the year are held in the region to celebrate its historic and agricultural uniqueness.
The wine regions of Sonoma, Mendocino, Amador, and El Dorado Counties, along with the famous Napa Valley, are only 1 to 2 hours away from Sacramento. Beautiful Lake Tahoe is 80 miles northeast of Sacramento and it offers white sand beaches, biking trails, boating, camping, fishing, hiking, and mountain climbing, not to mention more than two dozen world class ski resorts. Sacramento is ideally located within a day’s trip of San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and Monterey for coastal California enjoyment.
