Congratulations on progressing to the next step of your application process. To ensure your travel and Interview Day here at the College of Medicine is informative and successful; please read below prior to your scheduled Interview Day.

California Northstate University College of Medicine is located at 9700 West Taron Drive, Elk Grove, California 95757. Our web address is medicine.cnsu.edu.

Driving and Travel Directions

Please be aware that freeway traffic within the Elk Grove/Sacramento area is congested during these hours; therefore please do plan your travel accordingly to ensure you arrive within the check-in time noted above. A great resource for checking morning traffic is by watching the local news broadcast and/or listening to KFBK 93.1 Sacramento area radio (via iHeart Radio) for traffic updates every ten minutes.

From the Sacramento International Airport

  • 6900 Airport Boulevard, Sacramento, California 95837
  • Head south on Airport Boulevard, towards airport exit
  • Merge onto I-5 SOUTH
  • Follow I-5 South thru downtown Sacramento towards Los Angeles (approximately 14 miles)
  • Exit at Elk Grove Boulevard, and turn left heading east
  • Take the first right onto West Taron Drive
  • The campus parking lot is the second driveway on the right after the first stop sign

From San Francisco

  • Take I-80 east toward the Oakland/Bay Bridge
  • Follow I-80 east towards Sacramento
  • Continue onto Capital City Freeway/Business 80/US-50 East
  • Exit at I-5 South towards Los Angeles (approximately for 14 miles)
  • Exit at Elk Grove Boulevard, and turn left heading east
  • Take the first right onto West Taron Drive
  • The campus parking lot is the second driveway on the right after the first stop sign

From Los Angeles

  • Follow I-5 North
  • After passing thru Stockton, continue on for 36 more miles
  • Exit at Elk Grove Boulevard and turn right heading east

Preparing for Interview Day

Preparation for Interview Day

We believe a successful Interview Day happens when candidates come prepared. Please review the required criteria below prior to your arrival to ensure your day runs smoothly.

  • Provide a valid ID upon check-in
  • Bring something to write with
  • Notepad
  • Professional dress required
  • Professional conduct is expected of all attendees
  • Smartphone use during interviews is prohibited, and is cause for dismissal

Your Arrival

On your Interview Day, check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and will end promptly at 9:00 a.m. The College of Medicine staff will be awaiting your arrival at the check-in table located on your immediate right upon entrance to the campus.

In addition to your formal interview, your day will also consist of a writing segment and the following informational sessions listed below; therefore, plan to be remain on campus until 3:00 p.m. An optional tour is offered from 3:00-3:30 p.m.

Requests to Reschedule or Cancel Interview
Due to the high volume of applicants, we do not offer rescheduling of interviews. However, a request may be submitted at your own discretion. We understand that unexpected events may occur no matter how prepared you are. Therefore, if you need to cancel your interview, we require the professional courtesy of a phone call and/or e-mail by 5.p.m the evening before your scheduled interview date.

Admission Steps for Fall 2020 Applicants

Important Communication Policy for Fall 2020 College of Medicine Applicants: To ensure that all applicants have an equal and ethical assessment of their application; all inquiries regarding your application and material are to be directed and submitted to the Admissions Office only at 916-686-7300 ext. 177 or via e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots. Any type of communication made by the applicant (or applicant’s parents, employers/supervisors, and faculty/advisors) to the CNU President, College of Medicine Dean or Admissions Committee members is strictly prohibited.  Any attempt to do so will be viewed as “inappropriate communication” and may negatively impact your application due to failing to follow the Communication Policy as stated.

 

  1. Complete CNUCOM admission prerequisites.
  2. CNUCOM accepts MCAT scores from the last 3 years. Acceptable MCAT versions are:
    • New MCAT Exam (only test scores after January 01, 2016 are accepted)
  3. Complete your application via the Association of American Medical Colleges portal AMCAS
  4. Completed AMCAS applications will be reviewed by the CNUCOM Admissions Committee and Admissions Office
  5. Selected, qualified applicants will be invited to complete the CNUCOM Supplemental Application (a $100 non-refundable fee is assessed to the application).
  6. Submit your Letters of Recommendation (LOR).  Applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation from the categories listed below.

First letter from: A Healthcare Provider,
Second letter from: A Science professor teaching the BCPM course,
Third Letter from: Other (e.g. Research Advisor, Non-Science Professor, Community Leaders, Employer Superior).

In lieu of the three LOR’s above, applicants can choose to submit one Pre-Med Committee Letter AND one letter from either category above. Submit all letters of recommendation to the AMCAS letter service only.

  1. Completed Supplemental Applications will be thoroughly reviewed. Highly qualified candidates will be sent an invitation to participate in an on-campus interview. All applications that are not selected will remain under review until the end of the cycle.
  2. Successfully complete an on-campus interview.
  3. The Admissions Committee will confidentially review and vote on completed application packages as Accepted, Waitlisted or Rejected.
  4. The Admissions Office staff will then communicate the final vote, and next steps if applicable to candidates
    • All admission decisions are final. Requests for admission decision appeals will not be accepted.
    • The College of Medicine is not accepting transfer students from other medical schools and/or programs.
    • At this time, the College of Medicine M.D. Program is only open to U.S. citizens and legal residents with Green Cards.

Deadline for candidates to select only one institution to hold position for Fall ’18 per the AMCAS Traffic Rules. Candidates may remain on the Waitlist at other institutions during this time.
