About

After finishing his MFM fellowship at UC Davis, he was instrumental in developing regionalized perinatal care for the Northeastern California Region for UCD and Sutter Health. He practiced as leader of a large private perinatal subspecialist group at Sutter Memorial Hospital for 15 years, as consultant for Kaiser Hospital in the 80’s. In 2002, he joined Sacramento Maternal-Fetal Med. as perinatologist working for Dignity Health until retiring from clinical medicine in 2015 to become a health systems turnaround consultant. Prior to rejoining CNU College of Medicine, Dr. Haesslein had multiple tenures as an interim transformational leader where he translated his extensive clinical hands-on experience to management analysis, strategic planning, and rapid change implementation. He served as Ob-Gyn Chairperson at ETSU (2015) and CNU College of Medicine (2015-2016) where he was also College Master. Earlier in his career, he was Director Div. of MFM at UCD (1985-1987), Ob-Gyn Chair at Providence Hospital, Seattle (1999-2000), and IPA Medical Director for Alta Bates Medical Group (2001-2002). He served as a certified reviewer and consultant for the Medical Board of California for many years.

He has trained and mentored Ob-Gyn and Family Medicine residents, medical students, CN Midwives, and physician assistants as well as mentoring administrators and staff in hospital and practice environments. He has extensive experience in promoting and ensuring quality performance for women’s health, which experiences he uses as a cornerstone in his education of medical students and residents.
